Silvio Rodríguez: "Néstor Kirchner devolvió a los argentinos la dignidad"
"Néstor fue el Presidente que me invitó un día de la Patria argentina a estar ahí frente a la Casa Rosada, cantándole al pueblo, y para mí fue algo inolvidable", recordó al referirse al 25 de mayo de 2004, al cumplir un año de asumir la presidencia.
"El fue el hombre capaz de devolverle a los argentinos más que la esperanza, diría yo, la dignidad. Fue el presidente que se hermanó con las Madres de Plaza de Mayo, porque fue el que sacó la cara para empezar a rehacer lo que había deshecho para los argentinos el liberalismo", remarcó el fundador de la nueva trova cubana.
"Me parece importante el apoyo a Cristina (Fernández de Kirchner), que es quien lo representa y quiero que sepan que mi corazón y mis ideas -lo que he defendido toda mi vida con mis canciones-, está con ustedes", declaró en su mensaje.

Silvio Rodriguez Surprised and Honored about ALBA Award
It is an honor and a pride that ALBA, a congregation of countries aiming for a better world for Latin America, has given me this award, the artist pointed to Prensa Latina in Madrid.
Along with the Letters Award, granted to Venezuelan Luis Britto Garcia, the ALBA Arts Award for a whole life’s work was released today in Havana during a ceremony attended by Cuban Miniester of Culture Abel Prieto among others.
Clearly taken aback by the news, Rodriguez, currently in the Spanish capital to attend a tribute to maestro Leo Brouwer, pointed the transcendence of ALBA in the development of Latin American culture.
In his point of view, one of the most important contributions of the aforementioned integrating scheme has been Telesur, a television news network that, in his opinion, telecasts our points of view or that of the non-meek, so to say, Latin America.
For the founder of the Nueva Trova movement, information is key part of culture, that is why the emergence of that new television channel is attractive in a world where unipolarity has ruled with just one part of the criteria.
It is very important that criteria get opened, that there is debate regarding the vision of reality and in that aspect, he pointed, lies Telesur’s transcendence.
The author of “La era está pariendo un corazón” (The Age Is Giving Birth To A Heart) explained that he is in Spain to partake in the well-deserved tribute that the General Society of Authors and Editors (SGAE for its Spanish acronyms) will give his friend Brouwer tomorrow.
Tomorrow, the composer, guitarist and director will pick in Madrid the 10th SGAE Award of Latin American Music Tomas Luis de Victoria 2010.
About his plans, Silvio stated that finished the music of Afinidades, opera prima of actors Jorge Perugorria and Vladimir Cruz (Fresa y Chocolate), film that will be launched in the Havana Festival of New Latin American Cinema.
Ha also said that he is involved in the Meñique project, first 3D animation movie that is being made in the history of Cuba.
Finally, he said he was “involved, musically and even as an actor” in a movie based on a Rusian play entitled “And yet it moves” (phrase by Galileo Galilei).
THE ALBA AWARD
This award was created by the ALBA in 2007, and is given to living creators who have lifted Latin American culture with their original contributions.
Likewise, it recognizes people who have enriched the common values of the region in some way, as well as those who promote decolonization and cultural emancipation.
Silvio Rodriguez, one of the awarded, is the greatest representative of Cuban trova and one of the most important musicians of Latin America.
In his albums, we can find songs that are notorious for the Spanish-sang music repertoire such as “La era está pariendo un corazón”, “Te doy una canción” and “Sueño con serpientes”.
His most recent production, Segunda Cita, has been the most sold in the pavilion of Casa del Alba Cultural, during the 6th edition of the International Book Fair in Venezuela 2010 (Filven) that was held in Caracas.
Luis Brito Garcia, on his side, is a narrator, essayist and playwright of great relevance in Venezuela and the continent.
During his career, Brito has been awarded with the prize Casa de las Americas in 1970 and the National Award of Literature in 2002 among others.
The author, born in Caracas in 1940, has written about 60 titles among which we can find “Rajatabla”, “Los fugitives”, “Vela de armas”, “La orgía imaginaria”, “Pirata” and “Abrapalabra”.
His most recent book “América Nuestra: Integración y revolución” (Our America: Integration and Revolution) has also had a high demand in the Caracas Book Fair.
The winners of the ALBA Award were released in the venue for Casa Alba Cultural in Havana, and Cuban Minister of Culture Abel Prieto, his vice minister Ismael Gonzalez, as well as other Cuban diplomats and intellectuals attended the event.
Along with Rodriguez and Brito, the award has been given to Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer (ALBA Arts Award 2007), Uruguayan author Mario Benedetti (ALBA Letters Award 2007) and Cuban scholar Roberto Fernandez Retamar (ALBA Letters Award 2008), among other Latin American artists and intellectuals./ CubaDebate

Silvio Rodriguez Receives ALBA Arts Award 2010
Speaking to Prensa Latina news agency, Silvio added that he feels really proud to receive an award like this one from ALBA, a regional bloc working for the integration and for a better future for Latin America.
This award, and also the Literature Award —bestowed upon Venezuelan Luis Britto Garcia—, were announced on Wednesday in Havana during a ceremony attended, among other personalities, by Cuban Culture Minister Abel Prieto.
Silvio is in Madrid to attend a gala in honor of Cuban composer and guitarist Leo Brouwer, who is scheduled to receive on Thursday the 10th Tomas Luis de Victoria 2010 Award given by Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando.
Asked about his work, Silvio pointed out that he has just finished the music for the film Afinidades, the first directing work by Cubans Jorge Perugorria and Vladimir Cruz, which will have its premiere during the upcoming 32nd Latin American Film Festival of Havana that begins in the Cuban capital on December 2 and runs through December 12.

Silvio Rodríguez: "Las críticas prefiero hacerlas desde Cuba"

El visado ha tardado 30 años en llegar. Pero después de esa larga espera que casi le hizo "perder la fe", el cantautor cubano Silvio Rodríguez ha podido por fin subirse a un avión rumbo a Estados Unidos para embarcarse en un gira que arrancará el próximo viernes en el Carnegie Hall de Nueva York y después le llevará por diversas ciudades estadounidenses.
No ha llegado acompañado de Pablo Milanés, como en aquel mítico viaje de 1979 donde sus voces sonaron al unísono en pro de la revolución cubana. Su amistad se rompió hace años por motivos aún no claros. Esta vez Rodríguez, de 63 años, llega solo después de múltiples intentos frustrados -el último fue en febrero, para el homenaje a Pete Seeger, "entonces el visado llegó, pero demasiado tarde"- y con una maleta ideológica algo cambiada respecto a la de entonces puesto que ni la isla ni 'el imperio' son los mismos que hace tres décadas.
"Estoy muy contento de poder regresar a los EE UU, que es un país, al que, aunque muchos no lo crean, admiro en muchos sentidos". Así ha abierto hoy una rueda de prensa en Nueva York en la que música y política se han dado la mano, como en sus canciones. Con la misma sutileza poética que caracteriza sus letras, ha repetido la necesidad de que algo cambie en la isla pero sin comprometerse con peticiones concretas porque "las críticas prefiero hacerlas desde Cuba".
Ha clamado por el final del embargo y ha reconocido que con Obama la relación ha mejorado. "La situación entre ambos países ha vuelto a donde estaba antes de Bush, pero no ha avanzado más". Ha lamentado que Obama tenga tantos problemas porque eso le impide pensar en Cuba. "Tiene las manos llenas y creo que solo podrá cambiar la política hacia la isla unilateralmente un presidente que no tenga tantos frentes abiertos como Obama", ha dicho refiriéndose a la crisis económica, la disputa por la sanidad pública y el vertido de BP. "No confío en que llegue a levantar el embargo, pero... ojalá!" ha proclamado.
En cuanto a lo musical, ha sorprendido declarando su admiración hacia la música de las películas estadounidenses de los años 50. "Mi familia era muy cinéfila y con 20 días mi madre me llevó al cine. Las partituras para películas en la década de los 50 fueron magistrales y algunas composiciones se han quedado como referencia en la memoria colectiva de mucha gente. Recuerdo muchas películas que aunque no fueron musicales se te quedaban en la cabeza. La música de Vértigo (de Alfred Hitchcock) no te abandona, lo mismo que la de de Duke Ellington en El hombre del brazo de oro (protagonizada por Frank Sinatra). Ese contacto con el cine de los Estados Unidos, que fue un gran transmisor de música, es lo que incorporé a mi trabajo. Eso, unido a la amalgama musical que escuchaba cada día en Cuba es lo que hizo de mí el músico que después fui".
